Remembering the past; dreaming of the future
This exercise invites you to journal about that very thing. We come into God's presence through different situations and experiences.
The first part of the exercise is to map your life story in your journal. Begin by making a horizontal line across the page. Then, on the left end of the line, you will write the actual or approximate date of your birth, your baptism or the first realization you had that you are a child of God. As you move across the line, you will chart the highs (above the line) and the lows (below the line) and the significant people and events of your life. After you've done this, pause to reflect on your experience and acknowledge the ways God has been at work in your life.
It has been said that if you do what you always did, you get where you always go. Next in our journaling exercise we are going to think about change. Create your own dream list in your journal. List your tangible goals, and your intangible goals. Make it a list of all you want to do, be and accomplish during your life. Put anything on it. Brainstorm. Then star the five "burning" items on your list. Take 15 minutes to ponder this list.
Now spend some time thinking about your own personal mission statement. Write it out. Edit and revise. Revisit your dreams list. Are there commonalities? Be brief, specific and courageous.
Close your time of journaling by reading Philippians 3:12-14.
May God bless your time of thoughtfulness.
Joy,
Mary Ann
